Those Planning to Follow Sifuna Warned as Ex-IEBC Commissioner Alleges Ruto's Clever Plot

Former Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) commissioner Roslyn Akombe has cautioned Kenyans against being swept up by what she describes as political theatrics ahead of the 2027 General Election.

In a strongly worded post shared on X on Monday, Akombe warned that some leaders who appear to be challenging President William Ruto’s administration may in fact be part of a calculated political strategy.

She singled out a faction within the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) that has been critical of the government, led by ODM Secretary General Edwin Sifuna and Embakasi East Member of Parliament Babu Owino.

According to Akombe, the group could be working indirectly in Ruto’s interests, with the aim of attracting and consolidating support from citizens dissatisfied with the current administration.

She claimed that such leaders are sometimes “manufactured” and positioned as bold defenders of the people through highly publicized confrontations with authorities.

“They manufacture a charismatic messiah, throw a few teargas canisters at him — yes it is often a him — and present him as someone fighting power,” Akombe wrote.

She argued that Kenyans often fall for what she termed political drama, only for rival factions to later reconcile and share power, leaving ordinary citizens disadvantaged. “Soon they will be on the same table having handshakes. The ordinary citizen is on the menu, with life getting even tougher as the loot must be shared with more people,” she added.

Akombe urged voters to remain vigilant and avoid being gullible, warning that entrenched political interests often prevail unless citizens decisively reject leaders perceived to be aligned with the President.

Other figures associated with the Linda Mwananchi movement include Siaya Governor James Orengo, activist Brian Weke, and Saboti MP Caleb Amisi.
