Just In: ODM Removes Edwin Sifuna as Secretary General After High-Level NEC Meeting

The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) has removed Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna from his position as the party’s Secretary General following a decisive National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting held in Mombasa on Wednesday.

The decision, which takes effect immediately, marks a significant development within the Raila Odinga-led political outfit amid growing internal tensions.

According to an official statement released after the meeting, the NEC resolved to relieve Sifuna of his duties after deliberating on issues related to his conduct.

“Having deliberated on matters relating to the conduct of the Secretary General, Senator Edwin Sifuna, the NEC resolved to remove him from office with immediate effect,” the party stated.

ODM Raises Concerns Over Discipline in Senior Leadership

In its communication, the NEC expressed serious concern over what it described as rising levels of indiscipline within the party, particularly among senior leaders.

The committee emphasized that ODM remains governed by its constitution, adherence to the rule of law, and collective decision-making through its recognized party organs.

Political analysts say the move signals a renewed effort by ODM to reinforce internal discipline and unity as the party navigates Kenya’s evolving political landscape.

Catherine Omanyo to Serve in Acting Capacity

Following Sifuna’s removal, Deputy Secretary General Catherine Omanyo will assume the role in an acting capacity.

The party confirmed that she will serve until a substantive Secretary General is elected in accordance with the party constitution.

This leadership transition is expected to influence ODM’s internal structure and strategy in the coming months.
